Acadiana Roller Derby is Lafayette’s first women-only, flat track roller derby league. The league was founded in 2009. We recruited a fledgling group of skaters and turned them into a winning team. Our current roster has around 20+ skating members, many of whom recruit in January and go from fresh meat training to bout ready in 12 weeks or less. We are a non-profit organization who seeks not only to succeed in the athletic arena but also to give back to the community that supports us. We are fiercely committed to succeed, both on and off the track; our community service positively impacts local groups and we are always on the look out for more ways to support those around us.
Our skaters are women from all walks of life who range in age from 18 to over 50. They are students, stay-at-home moms, teachers, business owners, and many other professions. Some are veteran athletes while others have never played a team sport before joining the league.
Our referees and coaches are the men and women that keep our skaters bout-ready and up to date on the rules and regulations according to the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Non-skating officials (NSO) keep score, track penalties, and assist the referees. We also rely on volunteers to help make the bouts happen. They work the door on bout night, help promote the event, and also help set up the track and clean up after the bout. The league also holds fundraising events and makes team appearances all year long.
